The 2016 model year is upon us and with that, a brand new offering from Skeeter Boats! The SX210 is the newest member of the saltwater bay boat lineup and this boat is a perfect example of good things coming in small packages.
At first glance, you might notice that the SX210 looks really BIG for a 21 foot bay boat. Standing next to the boat, sitting on its tandem axle aluminum trailer (standard equipment!) you can't help but think this boat might be bigger than the chrome model numbers on the side of the console indicate.
Out of the box, the SX210 comes equipped with some impressive standard equipment including the Torque Transfer System (more on that later!), an 8" setback plate, Seastar hydraulic steering, an 8 foot Pro-Series II Power Pole, a tandem axle trailer with brakes on both axles, and Tuff Coat fenders, axle, bow stop and tongue.
Other standard options include: Yamaha multi-function gauges, removable windshield, cup holders, lean post, courtesy lights, console cushion with backrest, rear jump seats, vertical rod holders(14), self bailing cockpit, rear livewell/baitwell with fill & recirculating pumps/timer (14 gallon), Yamaha stainless steel propeller, 1500GPH bilge pump with float switch, 6" stainless cleats (5), anchor storage box, front deck storage area, horizontal rod storage (port), retractable boarding ladder, swing-away tongue on the trailer and a spare tire and carrier on the trailer as well!
"What is the Torque Transfer System??"
I told you we would come back to this. The "TORQUE TRANSFER SYSTEM" is a rigid link between the transom of the boat, the engine mounting surface and the rest of the hull. It's a really smart concept that basically allows the stringer system of the hull to absorb the energy created by the engine rather than forcing the transom to absorb all of the energy itself. You can learn more by watching this video!
The SX210 has a great layout and we found it to be extremely comfortable with 3 or 4 people fishing at the same time. Most people tend to stand behind the console but for those who want to lounge back a little, there are two super comfortable jump seats at the transom port and starboard. When the boat isn't running, another comfortable seat can be found in front of the console - this doubles as a 14 gallon live well (or if you don't need 2 wells, a great cooler!)
There are plenty of dry storage hatches in the boat and the anchor locker actually has room for 2 full size anchors! There is a 25 gallon live well in between the jump seats at the transom and there's even storage under the leaning post behind the helm! There's ample rod storage in the forward port compartment and its matching starboard compartment makes a great fish box with an independent side drain system.
Now that you know what the SX210 comes equipped with, let's talk about the next part - performance! The Skeeter SX210 was introduced with the option to power with a Yamaha 150hp or 200hp outboard - For Testing Purposes, the SX210 we ran was powered by the F200XB.
Mid-Range (cruising) Performance: At 3000 RPM, the SX210 cruises at 21.9 MPH and burns 4.1 gallons per hour (5.34 miles per gallon).
Top-End Performance: At 6100 RPM, the SX210 runs at 51.6 MPH and burns 19.9 gallons per hour (2.59 miles per gallon).
In general, running at 3500 RPM, burning a little over 5 gallons per hour and sitting just under 30MPH, the ride is comfortable and efficient!
I know, I know....So HOW MUCH DOES IT COST???? (I thought you might ask...)
Unlike a lot of the boats in the market, Skeeter makes no secret about how much this fun-sized package will cost you. The nationally advertised price with a Yamaha F150 and all standard options is $39,995.00.
